Dear brothers and sisters,          May 2, 2009;

===
The words "Najsh more" appear in 1 hadith(s) in Bukhari translation.

(1) Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "No town-dweller should sell for a bedouin. Do not practice Najsh (i.e. Do not offer a high price for a thing which you do not want to buy, in order to deceive the people). No Muslim should offer more for a thing already bought by his Muslim brother, nor should he demand the hand of a girl already engaged to another Muslim. A Muslim woman shall not try to bring about The divorce of her sister (i.e. another Muslim woman) in order to take her place herself."  (Book #50, Hadith #884)

We believe the above Tradition forbids the making of the following resolution or the like of it for a Muslim community.
===
APRIL 28, 2009, 4:58 P.M. ET
If the bill becomes law, the U.S. president would have clear authority to impose economic sanctions on foreign firms that sell, ship or insure gasoline or other refined oil products to Iran. Foreign subsidiaries of U.S. firms also would be covered by the proposed legislation.

Kyl said the bill gives firms that provide gasoline or other oil products to Iran a clear choice - do business with the $13 trillion U.S. economy, or with Iran's $250 billion economy, but not both.
===

If some firms have agreed to sell refined petroleum products to Iran, the US telling such firms to choose between $13 trillion economy and $250 billion economy is indirectly persuading the firm not to sell to Iran so that the US might buy the product. Thus the above resolution is forbidden for a Muslim country. As the USA is not a Muslim country, we indicate other reasons below to show that the above resolution is ill conceived.

1. At the beginning of the invasion of Iraq by President Bush France and other European countries opposed such an action because they had on going business and future contracts with Saddam Hussein. The invasion of Iraq caused a rift between USA and Europe, in particular France to the extent that the 'French Fries' became 'Freedom Fries.' President Obama is in the process of improving the US relations with Europe. At this juncture any move by US to dictate terms to the European firms might be construed as undue interference in their affairs and could possibly result in set back to President Obama's efforts to improve the 'Image of America' abroad. Any such economic blockade of Iran be done through diplomacy. President Obama could persuade the leaders of the nations of the companies doing business with Iran to advice those companies. When the leaders of their nations advice the companies to desist from interacting with Iran the Iranians would be denied the refined petroleum products, while the friendship between the US and Europe would grow. If the President of USA were to declare unilateral threats to European companies, it is bound to sour relations between USA and Europe.

2. Such an attempted starvation of the Iranian public of the refined petroleum products could have the opposite effect: the Iranian population might start depending on the current Iranian regime and thus any chance of 'regime-change' in Iran would be lost.

3. Even if all refined petroleum products imported by Iran get stopped, it would not cause any difficulty to the Iranian administration for the following reasons.
===
Iran has installed power generation capacity of about around 31.5 gw, of which around 80% is natural gas fired, with the remainder either hydroelectric or oil-fired.
===
In terms of generated electricity the loss of even 20% of capacity would not cause so much pain as to abandon efforts to develop the nuclear power industry. Indeed any embargo on oil necessary for the power plants would strengthen the argument for nuclear energy.

===
According to Oil and Gas Journal, Iran’s 2008 estimated proven natural gas reserves stand at 948 trillion cubic feet (Tcf), second only to Russia.
===
So Iran has no difficulty in expanding electricity generation using natural gas.

===
4 August 2008

Iranian automakers have produced more than 120,000 dual - fuel CNG and gasoline vehicles that use natural gas and regular gasoline ...

The Iranian cabinet issued a statement in June saying that 60% of vehicle produced this year (Iranian calendar year 1387, which ends 20 March 2009)  are to be either dual-fuel or full CNG vehicles.
===

In view of the above, resolving to block refined petroleum products from entering Iran would take the Iranian population closer to the Mullahs.

It would be better if the Senators and the Representatives are persuaded to withdraw the resolution. Such a resolution would indeed handicap President Obama rather than strengthening him.

Kindly forward to every American friend you know with a request to impress upon his/ her Senator and Representative not to support such a resolution.

Ya Allah! Save America from committing blunders. Ya Allah! Guide America to lead mankind by love rather than arrogance of power. Aameen, Aameen, Ya Rabbil Aalamen.

Your brother,
