Dear brothers and sisters,         April 27, 2009;

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmathullahi Wa Bharakhathuhu.

Would there be a flu pandemic?
===
Mon Apr 27, 7:06 pm ET

MEXICO CITYThe World Health Organization raised its global alert level on the spreading swine flu virus Monday, but stopped short of declaring a global emergency — even as the U.S. said it was acting as if the outbreak would grow into a full pandemic.

...The WHO raised the alert level to Phase 4, meaning there is sustained human-to-human transmission of the virus causing outbreaks in at least one country.

...The WHO's Phase 6 is the pandemic phase, characterized by outbreaks in at least two regions of the world.
===

It seems as though the swine-flu is already passing from huma-to-human in Mexico.It just needs another country to suffer the same fate as Mexico for the swine-flu to become a pandemic.

The US is preparing as though the swine-flu would become a pandemic and is stocking the seed for producing the vaccine.
===
The CDC is working with the World Health Organization to keep track of any additional cases to determine whether and when a warning of a pandemic would be warranted. In preparation for such a scenario, the CDC has created a seed stock of a vaccine against the swine flu, which could be pushed into production should the number of cases jump significantly.
===

What happens if there is a pandemic? Travel would be restricted. That means even the seed stock from the US CDC might not be transported to a country that needs the vaccine.

Could Islam help?

The word "cumin" appear 3 time(s) in 2 hadith(s) in Bukhari translation.

(2) Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "There is healing in black cumin for all diseases except death."  (Book #71, Hadith #592)
===

The black cumin enhances the immune system and helps the sufferer fight the infection. If a healthy person consumes black cumin it simply strenthens the immune system. In that sense the black cumin is also a vaccine. Thus in countries where black cumin is grown it could be used even if international travel breaksdown.

What about those countries which do not grow black cumin? They would not get the black cumin as they would not get the CDC produced vaccine. We know that telephone, radio, TV and Internet do convey information. So is there any information that could be used as a vaccine?

The words "snake Ruqya" appear in 4 hadith(s) in Bukhari translation.

(1) Narrated Abu Said: Some of the companions of the Prophet went on a journey till they reached some of the 'Arab tribes (at night). They asked the latter to treat them as their guests but they refused. The chief of that tribe was then bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion) and they tried their best to cure him but in vain. Some of them said (to the others), "Nothing has benefited him, will you go to the people who resided here at night, it may be that some of them might possess something (as treatment)," They went to the group of the companions (of the Prophet ) and said, "Our chief has been bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion) and we have tried everything but he has not benefitted. Have you got anything (useful)?" One of them replied, "Yes, by Allah! I can recite a Ruqya, but as you have refused to accept us as your guests, I will not recite the Ruqya for you unless you fix for us some wages for it." They agrees to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them then went and recited (Suratul-Fatiha): 'All the praises are for the Lord of the Worlds' and puffed over the chief who became all right as if he was released from a chain, and got up and started walking, showing no signs of sickness. They paid them what they agreed to pay. Some of them (i.e. the companions) then suggested to divide their earnings among themselves, but the one who performed the recitation said, "Do not divide them till we go to the Prophet and narrate the whole story to him, and wait for his order." So, they went to Allah's Apostle and narrated the story. Allah's Apostle asked, "How did you come to know that Surat-ul-Fatiha was recited as Ruqya?" Then he added, "You have done the right thing. Divide (what you have earned) and assign a share for me as well." The Prophet smiled thereupon.  (Book #36, Hadith #476)

Muslims recite Surat-ul-Fatiha in every prayer. In addition to reciting Surat-ul-Fatiha outside of the prayers let us also make Dua not only for ourselves but for the whole mankind.

Ya Allah! We don't know whether the swine-flu is natural development or man-made. Whatever it be, Ya Allah, protect us and all mankind from the flu. Aameen, Aameen, Ya Rabbil Aalameen.

Please forward to all with a request to recite Surat-ul-Fatiha and make Dua. Those who do not know Arabic could use http://www.quranexplorer.com/ and get the computer to recite Surat-ul-Fatiha. After hearing it recited by the computer a number of times, they could recite it themselves.

[In http://www.quranexplorer.com/ in the home page, click the "Launch Quran Explorer" button. This opens a new window. In this click on the speaker sign next to English to mute the English translation. Click the 'options' button. It opens a window. In that turn off 'Auto Play Next Verse Range' and 'Auto Bookmark on Stop'. Select 'Duration of current Verse' for 'Interval between Verse.' Increase the 'Verse Repetition' for 'Selected Range' to the number of times you like the Surat-ul-Fatiha to be recited. Close the options window. Click the 'Play' button. Repeat the Verse yourself in the gaps in the recitation by the computer until you memorize Surat-ul-Fatiha.]
