Dear brothers and sisters,                   April 23, 2010;

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmathullahi Wa Bharakhathuhu.

The Holy Bible has two parts: Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is the Jewish Scripture. Thus the above expectation seems to be illogical. Inshah Allah in what follows we hope to show that Muslims have a stronger love for Jerusalem than the Jews on the basis of the Holy Torah and the Holy Quran. Of course the Christians have a strong claim on Jerusalem as Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him, is expected to rule the pious from Jerusalem.

First let us look at the Scriptures of Jews and understand the Word of God to the Jews.

The Tanakh

Though the word "Bible" is commonly used by non-Jews -- as are the terms "Old Testament" and "New Testament" -- the appropriate term to use for the Hebrew scriptures ("scripture" is a synonym used by both Jews and non-Jews) is Tanakh. This word is derived from the Hebrew letters of its three components:

Torah: The Books of Genesis (Bereshit), Exodus (Shemot), Leviticus (Vayikrah), Numbers (Bamidbar) and Deuteronomy (Devarim).

Nevi'im (Prophets): The Books of Joshua, Judges, I Samuel, II Samuel, I Kings, II Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habukkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. (The last twelve are sometimes grouped together as "Trei Asar" ["Twelve"].)

Ketuvim (Writings): The Books of Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel (although not all that is included in the Christian Canon), Ezra and Nehemiah, I Chronicles, and II Chronicles.

===

The Torah is also known as the Chumash, Pentateuch or Five Books of Moses.

Bereshit - Genesis

Shemot - Exodus

Vayikra - Leviticus

Bamidbar - Numbers

Numbers Rabbah

Numbers, Book of

Devarim - Deuteronomy

===

From the above, we conclude that the Torah is the Revelation from God to Prophet Moses, peace be upon him. The other books in the Tanakh are not Revelations from God, but like the Traditions and the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

Today we see that the majority Christian nation of USA is very friendly with Israel, a Jewish nation than with the Muslims. Yes, USA is now becoming friendly to Muslims, but its friendship with Jews is much stronger.

Obama to U.S. Jews: Nothing will distance us from Israel

===

Why does President Obama feel like as above? His heart is known to him and God. We could only guess, and our guess might be wrong.

We feel an advertisement issued by another Nobel Peace Laureate might give a reason. Quoting again:

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1164626.html

===

A day later, Nobel laureate Elie Wisel did the same, writing in a full page advertisement in the Washington Post that U.S. pressure would not force a solution to the dispute over Israeli building in East Jerusalem .

"For me, the Jew that I am, Jerusalem is above politics," Wiesel wrote. "It is mentioned more than six hundred times in Scripture - and not a single time in the Koran...the first song I heard was my mother's lullaby about and for Jerusalem ."

===

We agree that the word Jerusalem does not appear in the Holy Quran, the Word of God. However it appears in the Traditions of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Even though the word Jerusalem does not appear in the Holy Quran, the word indicating the place towards which the Muslims turn during prayer, the Qibla, occurs in the Holy Quran and the reference indirectly to Jerusalem indeed occurs in the Holy Quran. Jerusalem is indeed mentioned often in the Traditions of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

Yusuf Ali 2:140

Or do ye say that Abraham, Isma'il Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes were Jews or Christians? Say: Do ye know better than Allah. Ah! who is more unjust than those who conceal the testimony they have from Allah. but Allah is not unmindful of what ye do!

Yusuf Ali 2:141

That was a people that hath passed away. They shall reap the fruit of what they did, and ye of what ye do! Of their merits there is no question in your case:

Yusuf Ali 2:142

The fools among the people will say: "What hath turned them from the Qibla to which they were used?" Say: To Allah belong both east and West: He guideth whom He will to a Way that is straight.

Yusuf Ali 2:143

Thus, have We made of you an Ummat justly balanced, that ye might be witnesses over the nations, and the Messenger a witness over yourselves; and We appointed the Qibla to which thou wast used, only to test those who followed the Messenger from those who would turn on their heels (From the Faith). Indeed it was (A change) momentous, except to those guided by Allah. And never would Allah Make your faith of no effect. For Allah is to all people Most surely full of kindness, Most Merciful.

Yusuf Ali 2:144

We see the turning of thy face (for guidance to the heavens: now Shall We turn thee to a Qibla that shall please thee. Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque: Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction. The people of the Book know well that that is the truth from their Lord. Nor is Allah unmindful of what they do.

Yusuf Ali 2:145

Even if thou wert to bring to the people of the Book all the Signs (together), they would not follow Thy Qibla; nor art thou going to follow their Qibla; nor indeed will they follow each other's Qibla. If thou after the knowledge hath reached thee, Wert to follow their (vain) desires,-then wert thou Indeed (clearly) in the wrong.

Yusuf Ali 2:146

The people of the Book know this as they know their own sons; but some of them conceal the truth which they themselves know.

Yusuf Ali 2:147

The Truth is from thy Lord; so be not at all in doubt.

Yusuf Ali 2:148

To each is a goal to which Allah turns him; then strive together (as in a race) Towards all that is good. Wheresoever ye are, Allah will bring you Together. For Allah Hath power over all things.

Yusuf Ali 2:149

From whencesoever Thou startest forth, turn Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque; that is indeed the truth from the Lord. And Allah is not unmindful of what ye do.

Yusuf Ali 2:150

So from whencesoever Thou startest forth, turn Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque; and wheresoever ye are, Turn your face thither: that there be no ground of dispute against you among the people, except those of them that are bent on wickedness; so fear them not, but fear Me; and that I may complete My favours on you, and ye May (consent to) be guided;

What was the Qibla towards which the Muslims prayed initially?

http://www.searchtruth.com/searchHadith.php?keyword=Qibla+sixteen&translator=1&search=1&book=&start=0&records_display=10&search_word=all

The words "Qibla sixteen" appear in 4 hadith(s) in Bukhari translation.

(4) Narrated Al-Bara': When Allah's Apostle arrived at Medina, he prayed facing Jerusalem for sixteen or seventeen months but he wished that he would be ordered to face the Ka'ba. So Allah revealed: -- 'Verily! We have seen the turning of your face towards the heaven; surely we shall turn you to a prayer direction (Qibla) that shall please you.' (2.144) Thus he was directed towards the Ka'ba. A man prayed the 'Asr prayer with the Prophet and then went out, and passing by some people from the Ansar, he said, "I testify. that I have prayed with the Prophet and he (the Prophet) has prayed facing the Ka'ba." Thereupon they, who were bowing in the 'Asr prayer, turned towards the Ka'ba.  (Book #91, Hadith #358)

===

We find that the Muslims prayed towards Jerusalem in the initial period.

The Holy Quran indeed refers to Jerusalem indirectly in Verses 2:142, 2:143, and 2:145 as Qibla. It is unreasonable that God should use the exact word that man seeks in the Holy Torah, Holy Bible, or Holy Quran. We hope the Jews would accept that the Holy Quran refers to Jerusalem at least in three Verses.

There are a large number of collections of Traditions of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him mentioning Jerusalem explicitly.

The above collections of Traditions are easily accessible, but there are many more in addition to the above four. We are confident that Jerusalem would be mentioned in most of them.

Having established that the Holy Quran has indirect reference to Jerusalem and many references to Jerusalem are found in the most respected collections of Traditions of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, we turn to the references to Jerusalem in the Jewish Scriptures.

We had already quoted that the five Books of the Holy Torah are: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The Holy Torah is the Revelation given to Prophet Moses, peace be upon him, by God and we see that ‘ Jerusalem ’ does not appear in the Holy Torah too. In contrast, there is indirect reference to Jerusalem in the Holy Quran. Whether there are indirect references to Jerusalem in the Holy Torah is not known to us.

We find the following in the Traditions of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

http://www.searchtruth.com/searchHadith.php?keyword=Night+Journey+Jerusalem&translator=1&search=1&book=&start=0&records_display=10&search_word=all

The words "Night Journey Jerusalem" appear in 5 hadith(s) in Bukhari translation.

(1) Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: That he heard Allah's Apostle saying, "When the people of Quraish did not believe me (i.e. the story of my Night Journey), I stood up in Al-Hijr and Allah displayed Jerusalem in front of me, and I began describing it to them while I was looking at it."  (Book #58, Hadith #226)

(2) Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Regarding the Statement of Allah" "And We granted the vision (Ascension to the heavens) which We made you see (as an actual eye witness) was only made as a trial for the people." (17.60) Ibn Abbas added: The sights which Allah's Apostle was shown on the Night Journey when he was taken to Bait-ulMaqdis (i.e. Jerusalem ) were actual sights, (not dreams). And the Cursed Tree (mentioned) in the Quran is the tree of Zaqqum (itself) .  (Book #58, Hadith #228)

(3) Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle was presented with two cups one containing wine and the other milk on the Night of his Night Journey at Jerusalem . He looked at it and took the milk. Gabriel said, "Thanks to Allah Who guided you to the Fitra (i.e. Islam); if you had taken the wine, your followers would have gone astray.  (Book #60, Hadith #232)

(4) Narrated Abu Huraira: On the Night Allah's Apostle was taken on a Night Journey (Miraj) two cups, one containing wine and the other milk, were presented to him at Jerusalem. He looked at it and took the cup of milk. Gabriel said, "Praise be to Allah Who guided you to Al-Fitra (the right path); if you had taken (the cup of) wine, your nation would have gone astray."  (Book #69, Hadith #482)

(5) Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: (regarding the Verse) "And We granted the vision (Ascension to the heavens "Miraj") which We showed you (O Muhammad as an actual eye witness) but as a trial for mankind.' (17.60): Allah's Apostle actually saw with his own eyes the vision (all the things which were shown to him) on the Night of his Night Journey to Jerusalem (and then to the heavens). The cursed tree which is mentioned in the Qur'an is the tree of Az-Zaqqum.  (Book #77, Hadith #610)

===

We find that the ‘Night Journey’ of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is reported in the Traditions. That is, the ‘Night Journey’ is described outside the Holy Quran, even though the Holy Quran makes no direct reference to Jerusalem . Is there any information in the Jewish Scriptures regarding Prophet Moses, peace be upon him, and Jerusalem outside the Holy Torah which does not make any direct reference to Jerusalem? The following Jewish Verses mention both Prophet Moses, peace be upon him, and Jerusalem :

2 Chronicles 24:6; and 24:9

Ezra 6:18

Luke 2:22

Let us look at these Verses.

http://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/book.php?book=2+Chronicles&chapter=24&verse=6

===

6And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, [according to the commandment] of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?

===

http://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/book.php?book=2+Chronicles&chapter=24&verse=9

===

9And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection [that] Moses the servant of God [laid] upon Israel in the wilderness.

===

http://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/book.php?book=Ezra&chapter=6&verse=18

===

18And they set the priests in their divisions, and the Levites in their courses, for the service of God, which [is] at Jerusalem; as it is written in the book of Moses.

===

http://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/book.php?book=Luke&chapter=2&verse=22

===

22And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present [him] to the Lord;

===

All the four Verses refer to the Law of Moses, peace be upon him, and not an action by Prophet Moses, peace be upon him.

Thus from the accounts of the interaction given in the Traditions of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and the interaction of Prophet Moses, peace be upon him, in the Jewish Scriptures, it is clear that Jerusalem is holier to Muslims than to the Jews.

We find the following regarding the Christians in the Holy Quran.

http://www.searchtruth.com/chapter_display_all.php?chapter=5&from_verse=82&to_verse=85&mac=&translation_setting=1&show_transliteration=1&show_yusufali=1&show_shakir=1&show_pickthal=1&show_mkhan=1

Mohsin Khan 5:82

Verily, you will find the strongest among men in enmity to the believers (Muslims) the Jews and those who are Al-Mushrikun and you will find the nearest in love to the believers (Muslims) those who say: "We are Christians." That is because amongst them are priests and monks, and they are not proud.

Mohsin Khan 5:83

And when they (who call themselves Christians) listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of the truth they have recognised. They say: "Our Lord! We believe; so write us down among the witnesses.

Mohsin Khan 5:84

"And why should we not believe in Allah and in that which has come to us of the truth (Islamic Monotheism)? And we wish that our Lord will admit us (in Paradise on the Day of Resurrection) along with the righteous people (Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and his Companions رضي الله عنهم)."

Mohsin Khan 5:85

So because of what they said, Allah rewarded them Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise ), they will abide therein forever. Such is the reward of Al-Muhsinun (the good-doers).

===

At the time of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, Christians indeed were the helpers of Muslims in difficulty. Now they do not seem to sympathize with the Muslims. Ya Allah! Tune the hearts of the Christians so that they recognize the truth of Islam and help the Muslims out of love as mentioned in Verse 5:82. Aameen, Aameen, Ya Rabbil Aalameen.

Please make Dua for the Christians becoming closer to Muslims. Kindly forward to all your Christian friends so that having recognized the closeness of Muslims to Jerusalem, the Christians become closer to Muslims, Inshah Allah.
